Grounding

Grounding is about coming into yourself… Being present… Feeling yourself in your body. Grounding gives you a sense of being strong, connected to reality, and the ability to accept the ups and downs of life with grace and acceptance, realising that the ups and downs of life, is what life actually is; that there is no good or bad, that is only our perception. Life doesn’t care if it’s good or bad, it just is…

Grounding gives you a connection with your roots, your tribe, the Earth. Think of grounding as the foundation of the Pyramids. A strong firm connection in order to allow the growth and development of something awe-inspiring.

Grounding is linked with the Base or Root chakra which is associated with our survival and connection to our tribe. To be integrated and balanced in the base chakra means being aware, physically present and able to cope well in the physical world. When the base chakra is not integrated, anxiety and fear result.

There are many ways to include grounding into your life on a day to day basis. Take the time to connect with nature on a regular basis. This can be as simple as a walk through your local park. Walking everyday and touching base with the amazing planet that we are blessed to live upon is enough to get you living in your body.

Exercise of any sort will not only help with grounding, but also do marvellous things for your cardiovascular system, musculoskeletal system, nervous system, immune system, and the list goes on. It doesn’t have to be anything strenuous or difficult. But I do suggest something you enjoy. Swimming, yoga, dancing, playing in the park with your kids or your dogs, bush walking, gardening. Make it something that you want to do, and it will be much easier to be consistent.

I find the following affirmation helpful when walking or running. It becomes a grounding meditation combined with the rhythm of your movement. Memorise it and repeat it while walking, running or any rhythmic movement. You will find that after 5 to 10 minutes you feel strong and grounded and this feeling will continue with you through the day.
